WHITE PAPER - an opportunity to vent

Good Day everyone;

We have just been looking at the on line WHITE PAPER and taking the opportunity to comment on a variety of issues.  Our most recent comment was " MEDIA - WHERE ARE YOU "  It was a section on Social Networking for Persons With Disabilities - both health and developmental.  There is an enormous amount of good information and suggestions in there that the Media should take full advantage of.  It would be a great way to help those who feel  isolated and unable to contribute socially.

Why don't' all of you out there take advantage of this opportunity to comment on what you feel passionate about.  We don't know  where this WHITE PAPER will go but unless you take this opportunity presented to us, how will we ever know???

Where is the back door?

As Ed so aptly pointed out this morning, we need to find the "back door".  This is the case in a lot of what prevents us from achieving our goals.  In the case of us versus the government - in order to cut through the bureaucratic red-tape, we need to find the back door.

Here is an example -  Joe Public did not complete his grade 12.  So, when he wanted to get his apprenticeship in plumbing, he was told he couldn't because he did not complete grade 12.   The back door in this case was the discovery that all he had to be was re-trained  as he was already working in the job.

Food for thought….

STUDENT RALLY PROJECT

Hi there;

Sorry, but I guess I have been very busy and regret that I have not been on here lately.  You might be asking yourselves "what is Cathy up to these days?"

Well…..as we all know 2014 has begun, whether we want it to or not.  I choose to believe (because Thora keeps telling me so) that this is going to be a great year.

To start off this month, we are excited to be meeting the students at Kwantlin Polytechnic University who will be working with us on a huge project to gather personal life stories from persons with disabilities and get those stories out to the masses.  We know from recent experience that students (young people in general) are great to work with - as they were with the Pearson / Dogwood re-development project.  What a great bunch of young people to lead us into the future.  Let the work begin….

SO……what can you do, you may ask?……….if you are disabled or live with or are related to someone who is disabled you may wish to share your experiences as well about that relationship and how their disability (or yours) affects you and others you love.  The end result of this project will be a mass rally (this means you, your friends, your relatives, your friends' friends and even anyone you don't know) to be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 somewhere in Vancouver (possibly indoors - details to follow soon)

We welcome any and all suggestions or help.  Don't wait….. respond now.  We need you!
